The key trends and current challenges for the shipping industry and their impact to the shipping finance teams are part of the topic that Ms Eleni Nassopoulou, General Counsel of Scorpio Group, has accepted to illustrate and discuss at our Propeller Club Autumn Call.
The event will be hosted at Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola in Lugano and is exclusively reserved to The Propeller Club Lugano Members and their accompanying guests. The speech will be held in the hotel’s Sala Letizia; drinks and food will be served at the hotel’s Sala Colonne.

Eleni joined the Scorpio group of companies in April 2018, as its General Counsel. She manages and leads Scorpio’s 17 member in-house Legal Team, comprising the Finance and Transactions sub-team, the Shipping Claims and Sanctions sub-team, and the Company Secretarial and US Securities sub-team.
Eleni is a corporate, finance, funds, and private equity lawyer. She has also worked as an investment banker and COO, and in investor relations.
Eleni first started her career in private practice in New York City, with Haight, Gardner, Poor & Havens (now Holland & Knight). She then joined Shook, Hardy & Bacon, working in its offices in London, Milan and Zug. During this time, Eleni worked on the US$19 billion debt restructuring of the Ferruzzi/Montedison group.
After her time at Shook, Hardy & Bacon, Eleni began her investment banking career with ING Barings in Amsterdam and London, working in structured finance. She later expanded into private equity with Nomura International in London and with Cathay International Holdings in London and Hong Kong, working also in project financing with the latter. Eleni’s experience also includes securities services, funds, hedge funds and private equity funds with Fortis Prime Fund Solutions in Dublin, JPMorgan Chase Bank N.A. in London, and Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore, as well as private equity with an investment manager based in Hong Kong.
Eleni is a graduate of the University of Athens (L.L.B), the University of London (L.L.M), Columbia University School of Law (L.L.M), and the University of Pennsylvania School of Law (J.D). She has also completed many MBA courses at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business of New York University and an Executive Program in Financial Management at the Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Eleni is admitted as an attorney in the New York State Bar, as a solicitor in England and Wales, and as a solicitor in Ireland and has also qualified as an attorney in Athens. She is also, since 2013, a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA).
